More Than a Game by Ralph Robb - Book Tour

More Than A Game

Sabina Park Rangers is the first team of black players to reach the final of the Watney’s Challenge Cup. But coach Horace McIntosh has more selection problems than most. The First Division champions want to sign one of his best players – and right up until the day of the match he is uncertain that he will have a team for the biggest game in the club’s history because of arrests, a scam and an atmosphere of impending violence.

Author Q&A
1.       What is the first book that made you cry?

I’ve read books that have moved me but not one that has made me cry. In saying that I’ve also read best sellers that had made me want to cry, due to their severe lack of content and appeal.
2.       How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
Way too long! Particularly when you have other interests and have to hold down a full-time job. There is the risk of rushing and pushing forward work that’s not completely finish when pushed to meet a self-imposed deadline. Thankfully I have an excellent editor who happens to be a close friend, who is brutally honest.
In answer to your question it can 1 – 2 years, all depending on circumstances or creative flow.
3.       How do you select the names of your characters?
I try and base the personalities of the characters on a variety of people I’ve met on my travels, often amalgamating several into one. Then when I have a more in-depth character trait, I search for a name I believe suits that character. Whenever possible, I try to avoid stereotypes, which can be difficult, but sometimes it’s necessary.
4.       What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be?
My wife is a very spiritual person who meditates daily. When I asked her about totem animals, she quickly directed me to a meditation that would reveal my totem animal. Low and behold, a water buffalo appeared!
5. What are your top 5 favorite movies?
Here’s six, in no particular order. -  Matrix, Godfather 1&2, Raging Bull, Lord of the Rings (series), Black Panther and Ex Machina.
6. What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life?
This would have to be a character form the Marvel comics, Shang-Chi. I could teach him English and in return he could teach me a few moves!
7. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Just do your own thing, persevere and try not to chase the latest trends.
8. What book do you wish you had written?
I simply aspire to grow my talent to that of authors I admire.
9. Tell us 10 fun facts about yourself! :)
I could only answer the first two facts. But when I asked my wife for help, she insisted, with a smile on her face that she would answer the remainder for me.
I’ve worked in over twenty countries around the world.
I represented Great Britain in the European Championships as part of their Under 21 National Karate squad.
