Probably the Best Kiss in the World by Pernille Hughes - Book Tour

Probably the Best Kiss in the World

Jen Attison likes her life Just So. But being fished out of a canal in Copenhagen by her knickers is definitely NOT on her to do list. From cinnamon swirls to a spontaneous night of laughter and fireworks, Jen’s city break with the girls takes a turn for the unexpected because of her gorgeous, mystery rescuer.
Back home, Jen faces a choice. A surprise proposal from her boyfriend, ‘boring’ Robert has offered Jen the safety net she always thought she wanted. But with the memories of her Danish adventure proving hard to forget, maybe it’s time for Jen to stop listening to her head and start following her heart…

Author Q&A

1.What is the first book that made you cry? I must have a heart of stone as I can’t think of a book that has made me properly cry, but as far as I can recall both Maeve Binchy’s Tara Road and Being Billy by Phil Earle made me well up. Must try harder on the tears…
2. How long, on average, does it take you to write a book? About a year, all in, with sending to beta readers between edits. But there have only been two so far. And also I’ve just shelved a book after over a year as I couldn’t get it to work.
3. How do you select the names of your characters? I think in dialogue, so most often they just come to me.  Jen and Lydia in Probably the Best Kiss in the World just called themselves Jen and Lydia in my head as they spoke, so that was a done deal. In the case of antagonists I’ll think about what sort of name suits the type of person (or who has crossed me recently!)
4. What creature do you consider your "spirit animal" to be? A Dugong. A leisurely life, grazing in warm shallow water sounds wonderful and ‘dugong’ sounds funnier than ‘manatee’.
5. What are your top 5 favorite movies? I did a Film & Literature degree so I know there are many many marvelous, beautifully-crafted films out there, but actually my tastes are quite simple (I like films that make me happy) and these five I could watch again and again and again…
The Thomas Crown Affair
Mr & Mrs Smith
Bull Durham
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Pitch Perfect

6. If you were the last person on Earth, what would you do? Eat chocolate without judgey looks from anyone. And I wouldn’t even feel guilty about it…
7. What fictional character would you want to be friends with in real life? I think it would be an absolute joy to have Fat Amy from Pitch Perfect in one’s life. She’s self-confident with no filters, and I don’t think you could help but be swept along. I suspect my character Shelby in my debut Sweatpants At Tiffanie’s has a touch of Amy about her. (OK, so, subconsciously I want to have their self-confidence. I can probably manage the no-filters…)
8. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? You can be an aspiring author, but if you write, you are a writer. Take pride in that and own it. (I played it down for years and I shouldn’t have done.)  And then get your bum in the seat and do the words.
9. What book do you wish you had written? Harry Potter would be a bit of a win economically, but for structure skills I would say the entire Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz (these are very steamy, so be warned), and for voice anything by Mhairi Macfarlane.
10. Tell us 6 fun facts about yourself! :)
I used to work on Teletubbies
I am incapable of poaching eggs despite continuous efforts.
I am still 19 in my head
I used to tap dance
I ensnared my husband-to-be by ink-stamping his entire arm. Flirty, right?
I took a pole-dance class as research for Sweatpants At Tiffanies, and LOVED it. Best girls trip ever. I couldn’t walk for days after of course, but it was a hoot.
