An American Cage by Ted Galdi - Guest Blogger Book Review

Synopsis
Three inmates break out of a maximum-security prison in Texas, one of them Danny Marsh, a suburban kid in his twenties who landed in jail because of a crime he never intended to commit. An American Cage follows Danny and his two escape partners over a twenty-four-hour period as they struggle to cross Texas to freedom in Mexico. On this dangerous journey, Danny has to evade the rabid Texas authorities, and even worse, the schemes of one of his closest allies, who isn't who he seems.

Alicia's Review
American Cage is a book about three prisoners who escape and have a plan to get to Mexico. While it was semi-predictable, there were a few things that took me by surprise. There’s plenty of action and it is very easy to read.

Danny was the ‘main’ character in my opinion, even though we do follow around Phil, a scientist, and Monty, a car thief with a conscious. There are also some other important characters who shape and mold the story but revealing too much will spoil the book. The characters' backgrounds could’ve  been explored to add depth.

The only other problem I see is that there were some plot holes. One had seemed to be addressed but then it was completely forgotten about all together. There could be a lot more detail about characters and situations which would paint an even better picture for the reader. While I hadn’t necessarily seen the ending ‘coming’, I found it to be kinda disappointing. It felt slightly rushed and there were still questions that hadn’t been answered.

All in all, it’s a story that has you rooting for the escaped prisoners, which is always fun. With some additions and editing I think this book could truly live up to its potential.

If I had to give stars, I’d say about 2 1/2 out of five.
