When Life Gets in the Way by Ines Vieira - Guest Blogger Book Review

Synopsis
A wise man once said that life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.
Cassandra Mackenzie had only one plan. Get into Berkeley, University of California. That was her one purpose and nothing was going to get in her way or sidetrack her from that one goal. Her life would finally begin once she moved from the quiet streets of Plymouth, Massachusetts to the sunny hills’ of San Francisco.

That is if her family doesn’t fall apart before she can make her dreams come true.
Isaac Silva never made any plans his entire life. His only objective was to have the nightmare he lived day in and day out, to finally come to an end. To Isaac, graduating wouldn’t mean college, it would mean freedom.
But when these two meet, all bets are off.

“When Life Gets in the Way” is a story about overcoming diversity and the gruelling challenges that illness and violence can cause. But it is also a story of experiencing that one feeling that surrounds us all.

Heidi's Review

First, I want to thank Ines Vieira for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
When Life Gets in the Way was the first book I read by Ines Vieira. Her storyline was fresh, characters were interesting and never a dull moment with them, many different topics and issues addressed. Definitely, something for everyone in this book.
I loved her sweet dedication to her mother in the beginning of this book. “Thank you for showing me what a woman’s true strength looks like, how a loving mother acts like, and how to be a decent human being. I am who I am because of you.”
For the reader I loved the dedication as it held a special place in my heart. “For what it’s worth: It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be I hope you live a life you’re proud of and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over.”
My heart went out to Cassandra, Nicky but most of all for their Mom who had not seen their Dad who was stationed in Alaska for being a Mud Man. He was working all the time and never came home to be with his family. That caused pain for his kids but especially for his wife whom suffered from what looked like depression over this.
At first I didn’t like Issac. However, he grew on me after a while. He too pulled on my heart strings when I found out he was being abused. Nobody should be hurt like that.
I loved the bond that was forming between Cassandra and Issac.
